Many cultures and spiritual beliefs have used plants in their ceremonies: for blessings, purification, protection from evil, good luck, vision quests, honoring ancestors and the dead, representations of the divine, or to sanctify sacred sites. Sacred plants may be an element in ritual ceremonies, planted in sacred groves or temple grounds or simply brought into the home as a remembrance or connection to the divine.
